Reviving a man’s sex drive

MOST men who lose interest in sex are very embarrassed about it. They may try to tell themselves – and their partner – that it’s normal to stop wanting to make love when you’re 35 – or whatever milestone they’ve passed.

That’s rubbish – there are plenty of sexually active pensioners.

Or they say their partner is a sex maniac, though all she (or he) is wanting is to make love once or twice a week maybe – hardly wild.

Or they say they’ve too many problems at work – which may be part of the reason but it doesn’t mean that nothing can be done about it.

Or they try to put the blame on their partner – they say that she’s too fat to turn them on, or doesn’t make love well enough – when in fact they are just looking for someone to blame for a loss of interest they sense within themselves.

None of this is surprising when you remember how devastating it is for a man to lose interest in sex. Right from when he was young he will have heard men swapping banter about how randy they are.

He fears he’s not a proper man if he doesn’t feel like sex.

If you’re going to get past this barrier you’re both going to have to overcome your own insecurities and confide in one another.

OK, if your relationship is generally poor, you should be getting help from a counsellor rather than just worrying about the sexual element, but if you two generally get on well, take a deep breath, say you love your partner, miss making love and you want the two of you to work together to revive your sex life.

A medical check up would be a good idea. Cutting down on smoking and drinking could also have a dramatic effect, since both affect the blood supply to the bits that matter. Getting regular exercise will help too.

I know some guys have got the impression that Viagra is a cure-all for just about every male sexual problem, or that it can be used as a recreational drug simply to enhance sex even when there is no real problem – except perhaps a bit of boredom.

In fact, Viagra has been designed specifically to help men experiencing physical problems in getting or maintaining an erection. It is not suitable for all men – and can be dangerous in some circumstances – which is why it is only available in this country on prescription.

So-called Viagra available on the Internet often isn’t the real thing, or may be formulated in the wrong strength for you.

Viagra isn’t the answer when the problem is that a man has just lost interest in sex, has lost his sex drive, when it isn’t related to physical difficulty in keeping or maintaining an erection.

And it’s important not to try to self-medicate because research has shown that taking Viagra can damage men’s fertility by affecting their sperm.

If erection problems are the real issue, I can send you a free leaflet spelling out self-help therapy. If work problems or other worries are a stress factor, my leaflet on Coping with Nervous Stress will help. If it’s age-related, the one on Sex in Later Life contains plenty of practical suggestions.

But the problem often isn’t physical so much as that the man’s not giving his love life the priority it deserves – and needs if it is to survive.

He may have a very stressful job but in that case he needs to learn how to relax properly if he’s not to harm his health as well as his sex life.

Plan a couple of evenings or afternoons a week you will spend relaxing together – it doesn’t have to lead to making love but just being together.

Learn how to give each other a massage – a wonderful way of relaxing but also of getting back in touch with all the marvellous sensations our bodies can give us.
Emotions

It helps rev up the hormones no end. I can send you free leaflets on Massage for Couples and Sex Play and Sensate Focus.

Many men stop wanting to make love because they are cut off from their emotions. They may have come from a family where there was little physical affection shown, perhaps especially towards boys.

All this manly stiff-upper-lip stuff is the absolute enemy of a good sex life.

Our partners can’t know we love them unless we show them every day.

Get into the habit of kissing and cuddling regularly, so that there isn’t such a chasm to be crossed for you actually to make love.

The partner of a man who has lost his sex drive can take the lead by showing him lots of physical affection.

In fact, she should think carefully whether she has been putting all the responsibility for their sex life on to him, so that it’s no wonder he’s been finding it a bit much.

It’s no good just moaning at a bloke that he doesn’t show he fancies you often enough. How often do you show you fancy him? How often do you make a pass?

While men often feel very pressured by a demand that they make love when they are simply not in the mood – as do women of course – most men will respond to a loving caress in the right place, unless there is something very wrong with the relationship in general.

I can send you a free leaflet on How To Revive Sex Drive which spells out self-help sex therapy step by step to discover new and thrilling ways for you to make love.

If a man doesn’t even want to try to revive his love life, then it would be sensible to make an appointment with Relate (0300 100 1234 or see http://www.relate.co.uk for details of your nearest branch).

Relate can also help if it turns out the loss of sex drive has a cause you are powerless actually to change in reality and what is needed is for his feelings to change.

For example, a few men completely lose any urge to make love to their partner after she’s had a baby. This will usually go back to unresolved feelings about their own mother and perhaps being brought up with very rigid views about sex.

Some men are affected by their partner having a hysterectomy, either because it brings them too close to fears about ageing or because they are very squeamish about surgery. Whatever the cause, it is totally unnecessary to relinquish a pleasurable part of your relationship forever, so do book up to see a counsellor.

If you’d like free leaflets on reviving sex drive, saving your sex life, or one on 50 tips to brighten your love life, or any other help from me, just let me know.

Ten steps to an extended massive orgasm

Ten steps to an extended massive orgasm
While a majority of couples wish to have extended massive orgasm (EMO), not everybody comes down to experiencing these repeated orgasmic waves.

Lovers experiencing one of these massive orgasms have reported enjoying more of life’s joys in general, becoming nicer and more generous in their relationship.

An EMO can last minutes or hours, offering up blissful sensations at increasing intensities, reports Fox News.

And here are the tricks of this tantalising trade:

1. Truly recognise your pleasure

You want to immediately approve of your present sensations. This starts before you even get in the sack by overcoming anxieties you have about sex. This may require identifying limitations you’ve been taught about sex, like how you’re supposed to respond (or not respond). You need to then challenge any social conditioning that impedes upon your response.

Ridding yourself of the uninvited ‘others’ in your bed will enable you to solely focus on the orgasmic sensations, including ones that come from simply anticipating action.

2. Learn to relax

Lovers have the tendency to tense up during sexual excitement, which is not conducive to extended orgasm. You need to be able to surrender your nervous system during genital stimulation. It’s this letting go of tension that allows you to embrace your pleasure.

3. Get in the know

The more we know about our bodies, sex, and sexual response, the better we can recognise sensations, the more we can lose ourselves in them. Become knowledgeable about sexual response, sexual anatomy and erotic techniques.

4. Give yourselves time for pleasuring

Lovers may stimulate each other by fantasising out loud, taking your time getting to the genitals and hot spots. Teasing allows for greater energy awareness and arousal, and these are what make the experience ultimately so mind-blowing.

5. Touch for pleasure

You can show your partner that you are into the moment by informing them about what you are going to do so he or she can surrender more easily. Highlighting a lover’s physical responses further enables them to tune into the sensations.

6. Learn to channel your energy

You want to get out of your head, directing your energy to your groin. This will make for more explosive results, plus help you to further tune into your sexual response.

7. Become an effective communicator

To amplify things up, you may need to request changes that will intensify your pleasure if you’re the receiver. As the giver, you may need to ask for feedback or direction. In either case, asking for more will help you to feel more. Giving approval can do wonders for a lover’s ego.

8. Develop your pelvic floor muscles

Exercising your pubbococcygeus (PC) muscle will put you more in tune with your sexual response. It’s also what makes for more powerful orgasms.

9. Have plenty of lubricant handy

As you will be loving for the long-haul, make sure you avoid the friction, pain, and discomfort that can result from working each other raw by using lube.

10. Do away with any drive-thru mentality

Having an EMO isn’t like going for fast food. One can’t go into it thinking instant gratification. Instead, approach it as though training for a sport.

Your Sex Drive: 6 Essentials

>

Your Sex Drive: 6 Essentials
What the science of good nutrition has to say about your sex drive.
Some people vouch for the effect of foods on their sex drive, but extravagant claims for aphrodisiacs are not borne out by scientific studies. While sexual function may be our physical response to a cascade of hormones, sexual drive is basically maintained by an active mind in a healthy body. Here are the essentials:

1. A healthy sex life depends on good nutrition. Good nerve function, healthy hormone levels, and an unobstructed blood flow to the pelvic area are essential to sexual performance. To keep these systems in working order, a diet should be based on legumes, grain products, and other complex carbohydrates, with plenty of fruits and vegetables and modest levels of protein; this diet provides plenty of vitamins and minerals. Particularly important are citrus fruits for vitamin C to strengthen blood vessel walls, and low-fat dairy products, enriched or fortified cereals, whole grains, and green vegetables for riboflavin to maintain the mucous membranes that line the female reproductive tract.

2. Vitamin E and sexual function. Although there are no confirming clinical studies, many experts believe that without a good supply of this vitamin from oils, margarine, nuts, seeds, green vegetables, and wheat germ, sexual function is likely to suffer.

3. Get going. Fatigue and depression are common culprits in sexual complaints. These conditions are often linked, and both may be helped by a program of regular exercise, which stimulates the production of endorphins (mood-elevating brain chemicals). In some cases, iron-deficiency anemia may be responsible for fatigue. A diet that includes meat, fish and shellfish, nuts and seeds, legumes, enriched or fortified grains and cereals, leafy greens, and dried fruits helps to replenish iron stores.

4. Get zealous over zinc. It is known that zinc is tied to sexual function, although its importance to the sex drive has yet to be explained. Without enough zinc, sexual development in children is delayed, and men, too, need zinc to make sperm. Zinc is found abundantly in foods of animal origin, including seafood (especially oysters), meat, poultry and liver, as well as eggs, milk, beans, nuts, and whole grains.

5. Minimize saturated fats. People readily accept the link between a high intake of saturated fats, elevated blood cholesterol levels, and a buildup of atherosclerotic fatty plaques on the blood vessels around the heart. It’s less well understood, however, that similar plaques develop on the myriad tiny vessels in the penis. Without free-flowing circulation, the penis cannot physically respond to messages from the sex drive.

6. Curb alcohol, knock-out nicotine. Alcohol’s effect on sexual function was neatly stated by William Shakespeare, who noted that wine “provokes the desire, but takes away the performance.” Excessive alcohol lifts behavioral inhibitions, but this liberating effect may be canceled out by its depressant effect. Alcohol also has an action similar to the female hormone estrogen. This can have a devastating effect on masculinity, causing impotence and shrinking of the testes in men who drink heavily. Nicotine, on the other hand, is an enemy of the arteries. Nicotine not only promotes the formation of atherosclerotic plaque in the penile blood vessels but also constricts them.

Library and Information Science

The modern society is passing through the phase of information explosion. Information is available in print media such as books, periodicals, newspapers, maps etc. as well as in non-print media such as Compact Disks, phonograph records, films tapes, microforms etc. Management of various types of information is a challenge and a highly scientific task. It was the need to manage the information explosion and hence the library and information centers emerged. That was followed by the emergence of Library and Information Science. Library Science emerged as a discipline only in the end of the 19th century. With increase in micro-literature such as scientific periodicals, patents, theses etc., the new array of techniques emerged which was terms “Documentation”. Next to that, the society is facing the exponential growth of scientific literature, automation and new media of communication (such as Information Communication Technology-ICT). This brought sea change in the outlook of Librarians and Documentalists and more so in the users of information. Thus emerged “Information Science” where “Information” is at the center. We can depict the phase of Library & information science” as follows:

*Books – Library Science

*Documents (Books+Mirco-literatures) – Documentation

*Informations – Information Science

(Documents +Non-Print Media+Automation +ICT, etc) –

Library and Information Centers are repositories of knowledge and information and entertainment. They contain books, periodicals, microfilms, CDs i.e. print and non-print media for education, research and entertainment etc. Those who scientifically and systematically organize and disseminate these information sources through vivid processes such as acquisition, cataloguing, classification, reference works and dissemination of information etc., are called ‘Librarians/Information Managers’. This profession is among top ten most coveted professions in developed countries [(http://www.competitionmaster.com) – careers in Library Science, p.1]

Library and Information Science deals with all kinds of aspects related to Library and Information Centers with a motive to link the information seekers with the required information through various Library and Information operations.
